Sedia Savonarola o Curulis, Modello “Il Giglio” Folding Savonarola chair carved with rich ornamentation, including the Florentine lily—a symbol of Florence since the Middle Ages. This style, known in Italy as sedia a Savonarola or X-chair, evolved in the Renaissance from medieval folding chairs and has connections to the Roman sella curulis (curule seat), which was originally reserved for magistrates and symbolized authority.
According to tradition, examples of this chair type come from Tuscan villas and are sometimes called “iccasse,” owing to their X-shaped, foldable structure—reflecting the same cross-frame principle that made the curule seat portable.
Made of dark brown wood, this piece is foldable by removing the backrest and armrests.
